Laser Lights and Coastal Nights: Experience Bicheno Beams

Bicheno Beams Is Back - and It's Free

Every winter, Bicheno does something quietly spectacular. As the temperature dips and evenings draw in, the foreshore lights up - literally.

Bicheno Beams is an annual community laser light show that runs nightly from Saturday 27th June to Saturday 25th July 2026, bringing locals and visitors together for one of Tasmania's most distinctive winter events. And the best part? It's completely free and no booking is needed.

Doors open at 6:00 pm (arrive early to claim your patch on the grassy slope) with the show kicking off at 6:30 pm. Two alternating 15-minute shows run across the season - stay two nights and you'll catch both, each with its own distinct mood and soundtrack. The beams shoot, roll, and throb with the music - against the dark sky, it's like a living artwork.

Wrap up warm, pack a thermos and a picnic rug, and lie back to watch the beams above you. From flat on your back, it's as if you could reach up and grab a string of lights.

Sometimes, there are food trucks but no booze - Bicheno Beams is strictly alcohol-free. If you're sans kids, head to the Bicheno Beer Co behind the bakery on Burgess Street after the show - or as we like to call it, The Penguin Pub.

Why It Makes Winter the Best Time to Visit

Bicheno in winter is already something super special - empty beaches, crystal clear and calm water, long lunches and cosy evenings by the fire with a glass of Devil’s Corner pinot noir. Bicheno Beams adds a reason to make the trip now, during the quieter months when the town feels entirely yours.

It's family-friendly, free, and so much fun - we dare you not to have a shimmy to the huge tunes that accompany the lasers.

If you love Vivid Sydney, wait until you see what a little Tasmanian town can do with light…

Make a Weekend of It

Bicheno Beams runs nightly, which makes it the perfect excuse for a winter escape. Spend your days exploring Douglas-Apsley National Park, swimming at Redbill Beach (wetsuit recommended!) and eating your way through town - then finish each evening watching the sky light up over Bicheno.

Casa Collection has three luxury stays available across the Bicheno Beams 2026 run - all a short walk from the foreshore and the perfect base for your winter getaway.
