The (love) Story Behind Casa Collection Bicheno
Words by Monique, owner of Casa Collection Bicheno ~
Before Casa Bicheno became a collection of coastal stays, it was simply an idea shared between my fiance Rohan and I - a vision for the kind of life and spaces we wanted to create together.
In 2020, we purchased the Murray Street property in Bicheno on Tasmania’s East Coast and engaged Gillian Van Der Schans to design the first home. At the time, we were living in Noosa, with our new baby girl Kingston, immersed in beautifully relaxed coastal homes that heavily influenced the direction of Casa. I was teaching, while Rohan was building high-end houses, and we found ourselves constantly inspired by spaces that felt warm, effortless and deeply calming.
When we returned to Tasmania, we wanted to bring that same feeling to the East Coast - creating somewhere that felt instantly relaxed, grounded and connected to coastal living. We leaned into whites, neutrals, earthy textures and natural materials, which at the time felt quite different to what we were seeing locally. Minimalism and quality over quantity became central to every decision we made.
Construction on Casa Original began at the end of 2020, built by Rohan’s brother-in-law, Ben Allen, and by early 2021 we had moved in ourselves. In summer 2022, we welcomed our first guests - and around the same time, our second bebe, Soleil.
Somewhere between family life, hosting guests and watching people fall in love with Bicheno the way we had, the broader vision for Casa quietly began to take shape.
In spring 2023, a trip to Byron Bay and a stay in an Elsewhere Pod sparked inspiration for the next phase. We returned home and began planning our own interpretation for Bicheno, alongside the construction of the Pool Villa. By spring 2024, we welcomed our first guests to The Bambino.
Over the past five years, Casa has evolved alongside our little family. What began as a simple idea has slowly become a collection of spaces shaped by the places we’ve lived, the homes we’ve loved and the life we’ve built together on Tasmania’s East Coast.
And in many ways, it still feels like we’re only just getting started.
We hope you love Casa as much as we do - explore our three Bicheno properties — Casa Original, The Bambino and The Pool Villa.
