A slower pace and a personal approach to skin
For Kate Woolnough, a Tasmanian holiday turned into a new home, a slower pace and the chance to create a skin studio that feels personal from the moment you arrive.
Kate completed her beauty degree more than 20 years ago and went on to open her own clinic in NSW. She and her family renovated an old house and transformed it into a salon offering everything from skincare and nails to tanning, massage and body treatments.
When the family moved to Tasmania, Kate managed the salon remotely before deciding to sell and focus on a skin clinic in Bicheno: Mother Skin Studio.
Finding home on the East Coast
The family first visited Bicheno on holiday and fell in love with Tasmania’s East Coast. They hadn’t planned to move, but before the holiday was over, they had bought a property. Two years later, with their young family, they made the move.
Almost seven years on, Kate still treasures the things that drew them here: the relaxed lifestyle, the space and the slower pace they can create for themselves.
Skin, with a little more care
At Mother Skin Studio, Kate practises corneotherapy - it’s an approach that looks beyond the symptoms of a skin concern to explore its underlying causes. The aim is healthy skin, supported by treatments and care tailored to each person.
Kate works with Prologic Skincare, a prescription-only range she loves for its focus on long-term skin health. She wants every visit to feel relaxed and personal, with time to understand your skin and adjust your facial as its needs change.
Her favourite treatments? Prologic facials and skin needling. Kate loves working through a skin challenge with a client and seeing the difference healthy skin can make to how they feel.
“Offering professional strength skincare alongside facial massage is so powerful for your skin, your nervous system and your overall health.”
Home among the orchard and the goats
When she’s not at the studio, Kate is happiest at home in the bush with her family and no plans for the day. She enjoys pottering around the orchard, visiting the chickens and goats, and—when she can steal a little time away from her five children—settling in with a good book.
For visitors to Bicheno, her tip is to slow down and give the town a little more time. There are beaches, bushwalks, cafes and bars to enjoy, but the best part might be simply having room in the day to enjoy them.
“Stay a little longer and enjoy the slower pace because you won’t want to leave!”
